RSD Shipping Agency Jamaica Limited copped the coveted Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (MBCCI) Resilient MSME Award during a banquet and awards ceremony in St James on Saturday, December 3.

The function, held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre and guided by the theme ‘Recognising Excellence in Entrepreneurship’, saw RSD Shipping Agency walk away with the award before a room filled with several of the Second City’s industry leaders. The MBCCI awards are the organisation’s most prestigious and are issued at the year-end banquet to honour companies and individuals for business excellence displayed throughout the year.

Against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on business, the Resilient MSME Award carried significant weight this time around. The MBCCI recognised the level of fortitude displayed by the company’s principals, resulting in significant growth in the competitive shipping and logistics industry.

President of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Oral Heaven, said RSD Shipping Agency announced its arrival on the business scene in October 2019 and was quickly faced with the challenges brought on by the pandemic. The company did not stall but, instead, dug deep and, in the process, expanded its services to Kingston at the height of the pandemic in June 2020.

In further justifying the award, Heaven said the company, affiliated to RSD International, also used the period to solidify its network with a trusted team of industry partners in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Upon winning the award, Sonia Clarke Bowen, managing director of RSD Shipping Agency, expressed appreciation for the recognition, noting its validation of the company’s work and worth.

“We’re extremely happy and honoured to be recognised by the MBCCI for the work that was carried out, especially during a period of great uncertainty in the economy and our industry. RSD Shipping Agency handles ocean freight consolidation, consolidated full container-load shipments, air shipments, small packages and less-than-container-load shipments. The agency also acts in partnership with RSD International Inc, Tradespan Cargo, IDB Freight, Fair Deal Shipping & Trading, and Caribbean International Shipping Services.
